An important part of the IB program includes a student’s attitudes. We feel that students must have a positive attitude towards learning and others around them.  Through this program, the faculty and staff will explicitly teach the students about each attitude word below and use them in their daily vocabulary.  It is important that you, the parent, make a habit of using this same terminology so the students will not only use the terms, but also demonstrate these attitudes on a daily basis.

We want students to develop:

1.  Appreciation – appreciating the wonder and beauty of the world and its people

2.  Commitment – being committed to their learning, preserving and showing self-discipline and responsibility

3.  Confidence – feeling confident in their ability as learner, having the courage to take    risks, applying what they have learned and making appropriate decisions and choices

4.  Cooperation – cooperating, collaborating and leading or following as the situation demands

5.  Creativity – being creative and imaginative in their thinking and in their approach to problems and dilemmas

6.  Curiosity – being curious about the nature of learning and of the world, its people and cultures

7.  Empathy – imaginatively projecting themselves into another’s situation, in order to understand his/her thoughts, reasoning and emotions

8.  Enthusiasm – enjoying learning

9.  Independence – thinking and acting independently, making their own judgments based  on reasoned principles and being able to defend their judgments

10.  Integrity – having integrity and a firm sense of fairness and honestly

11.  Respect – respecting themselves, others and the world around them

12.  Tolerance – feeling sensitivity towards differences and diversity in the world and being responsive to the needs of others
